SUMMARY:Volunteer Opportunities at St Constantine's Chapel - 7th & 8th May
DESCRIPTION:The MI team are calling for volunteers to support conservation repairs at the Medieval St Constantine’s Chapel!\n  \nMeeting Point: Trevose Golf & Country Club\, Constantine Bay\, Padstow\, PL28 8JB \nTimings: 10:00 – 15:00 \n  \nTasks for the days will include:\n\nDigging by hand (shovels and wheelbarrows) and creating a barrow run to efficiently move sandy soil material around the site alongside Old Light Building Conservation and Cornwall Archaeological Unit.\nPossible sieving or sorting through large rocks/boulders as necessary.\nBagging and tagging finds as they are recovered.\nInfilling and compacting hollows.\nAdditional stone salvage as necessary\, recovering stone from two stone dumps within the scheduled area.\n\n  \nWhat to bring\nPlease bring plenty of water to keep yourselves hydrated as well as sun cream & hats to protect yourself from the sun. Please also bring sturdy walking boots and thick gloves as there are sharp blackthorns at the monument site. \n  \nIf you haven’t already\, please book your space below. SUMMARY:Conservation Week @ St Constantine's Chapel
DESCRIPTION:Join our Monumental Improvement project team at St Constantine’s Chapel for a week of action-packed activities and volunteer opportunities. During the week commencing the 19th of May we will be running a series of events including guided tours and volunteer building conservation repair training. On-site from Monday to Friday will also be Drolla the story-telling bench commissioned and co-designed by the Cornwall National Landscape team and created by renowned Cornish metal sculptors Thrussels. Come take a seat on Drolla and enjoy a monument of reflection and tranquillity. \n  \nFind out which days we’ll be doing what below:\nMonday 19 to Friday 23 May – Our conservation work at the chapel continues\, you can also meet Drolla – The Story Telling Bench. Commissioned and co-designed by the Cornwall National Landscape team and crafted by renowned Cornish metal sculptors Thrussells\, Drolla\, which takes its name from the Cornish word for “folk tale” seamlessly blends intricate artistry with functional design. \nWednesday 21 May – We will be offering 2 open tours of the site. One morning walk at 10:30am and one afternoon walk at 13:30pm. Feel free to visit the site and speak to our team about the works being carried out as well as about our project. Booking is required for these activities\, please RSVP below. \nThursday 22 May – Learn about the principles of historic building conservation from the team at Old Light Building Conservation. There may also be opportunities to get involved and contribute to the repairs at the Chapel in the afternoon. SUMMARY:A Monumental Celebration @ Bottreaux Castle
DESCRIPTION:Join our Monumental Improvement team for our final project celebration event at Bottreuax Castle on Thursday the 29th of May from 10:00 – 15:00 \nDrop in for cake and coffee and immerse yourself in a stunning exhibition at the Boscastle Community and Recreation Centre. Discover James Innerdale’s beautiful watercolour illustrations of the sites\, explore blown-up 360° panoramic images and marvel at digital reconstruction stills that bring these ancient places to life. We’ll also be running drop-in Family drawing sessions with local artist Sam Halstead from the top of Bottreaux Castle with picturesque views over the River Jordan. \nJust over the road at the Medieval Motte and Bailey Bottreaux Castle you can also meet Drolla – The Story Telling Bench. Commissioned and co-designed by the Cornwall National Landscape team and crafted by renowned Cornish metal sculptors Thrussells\, Drolla\, which takes its name from the Cornish word for “folk tale” seamlessly blends intricate artistry with functional design. \nCreate your own story drawing inspiration from the plethora of symbols of Cornwall’s rich cultural tapestry: from mythical creatures and ancient legends to indigenous flora and fauna.
