Goonown Growers

Goonown Growers is a community market garden that produces a wide range of produce that are sold through their ever-popular veg-box scheme, as well as at their local market stall and to some local shops and restaurants.

The community market garden is comprised of two fields, totalling around 2 acres in size. They are certified as organic through the soil association and as well as trying to provide nutritious food for the community, they’re enhancing the local habitats at the same time!

Through FiPL, Goonown Growers have been funded to build an all-weather space for their volunteers and the local community to gather and share and cook food together. The space also allows them to host courses and workshops in growing, gardening and sustainability.

Their vision is to build a strong sense of community by bringing people together to grow, cook and eat food together. They believe that this will help to boost health and wellbeing by connecting with nature, allow people to learn new skills and spend time all important time outdoors.

As well as working for the people, Goonown Growers are also working for and with nature. They’ve recently sown 0.25ha of wildflower meadow, and have planted and restored hedgerows around the fields.

Beyond FiPL, Goonown Growers are also one of the first pilot sites in Cornwall to offer an NHS Veg-Box Prescription! They ran workshops for pre-diabetics, including how to cook the seasonal food. You can read more about this initiative, and more like it here.
