Bodmin Moor Hill Farming Project Events

Voting on topics for workshops and events was very positive, and we now have some events aimed at providing practical learning and support for the Bodmin Moor community.

Following your feedback and voting, we are currently finalising an events timetable. Below is a brief overview of the upcoming activities following your feedback:

Farm Profitability & Diversification: Tuesday 21st January 2025 – Ninestones Farm, Draynes Valley, PL14 6SD

Hear from Chris Clark, and the William’s of Presingoll Farm, St Agnes.

Chris is a partner at Nethergill Associates, a consultancy advising on achieving maximum sustainable output (MSO) without compromising nature. He has analysed over 200 farms and is co-author of “The Less is More” report focusing on improving profitability and the natural environment in hill and other marginal farming systems . Chris brings hands-on experience from managing eco-hill farm projects in the Yorkshire Dales and now works on conservation initiatives in Devon.

Mark Williams is a Cornish farmer who, alongside his brother Andrew, operates Presingoll Farm near St Agnes. Demonstrating an entrepreneurial spirit, the Williams family have diversified their 81-hectare farm to include a bare-root tree nursery, dog exercise field, solar arrays, caravan and camping site, pick-your-own sunflowers and pumpkins, and heritage pig rearing, complementing their primary cereal and vegetable production.

This diversification has facilitated succession planning, enabling Mark’s daughter, Inez, and her husband, Chris, to establish their own roles and income streams within the farm business. Inez represents the fifth generation of the Williams family at Presingoll Farm, where diversification has been pivotal in enhancing business resilience.

Partner Project: Songs for Moor Folk

Although not being run through the Bodmin Moor Hill Farm Project we think this event links nicely!

IntoBodmin in collaboration with Cornwall National Landscape are running community singing workshops across Bodmin Moor to bring the community together and get them singing like the good old days!

Shake off those winter blues with foot-stomping folk songs and shanties at your local pub

Cornwall National Landscape, intoBodmin, and Lowender have joined forces to bring these free events to the rural and farming communities of Bodmin Moor, which kicked off at the Blisland Inn in January. Whether you’re a fan of traditional shanties and folk songs or simply enjoy local ale in good company, Songs for Moor Folk has something for everyone. Singing talent is optional!

Led by Kevin Brinn and Dan Woodfield, the events are filled with good humour and camaraderie.  Enjoy the music, join in, learn some songs and even help create a new folk song for Bodmin Moor! Book online or just drop in.

Saturday, 1st February, 7:30 PM at The Wilsey Down Pub, Camelford

Friday, 7th February, 7:30 PM at The Crow’s Nest Inn, Darite
