Beach Guardians

Beach Guardians, one of our FiPL beneficiaries, are a Community Interest Company (CIC) based in Constantine, North Cornwall. They have established themselves as a credible and high-profile community group by leading community beach cleans and through their out-reach work with schools. They work hard to connect people with their environment.

Our FiPL programme awarded funding to them to develop and deliver activity plans to engage the local community in the management and care of the dunes.

They are actively working to conserve and enhance sand dune habitat across three dune sites at Constantine, Treyarnon Bay and Porthcothan Bay. They work with volunteers to stabilise sand dunes and remove invasive species. Through their work with both communities and schools they are upskilling local people in the area with practical habitat conservation skills. Work on the dunes needs to be structured and planned in order to balance the need to improve the ecological habitats on the dunes with the need to stabilise them to ensure their survival and resilience to storms and changing weather.

By protecting sand dunes and our coastal landscapes from erosion, we’re also safeguarding valuable grazing and productive land from the long-term impacts of climate change.
